Battle Chess 4000 Discounted Mega Bundle Now Available On Steam - PVP Live

Battle Chess, Interplay Entertainment’s critically and commercially successful retro game series, is making a comeback with the re-release of the clay-animated Battle Chess 4000, which is available in a discounted Mega Bundle alongside the entire series.

Battle Chess 4000, first released in 1992 for Microsoft DOS, combined the classic game of chess with sci-fi settings reminiscent of Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The game’s library of hundreds of thousands of opening moves, clay-modeled chess pieces with their own unique animations, and challenging AI set it apart from other chess-inspired games.

Although there are many newcomers to the game development scene, some of the most well-known studios were founded in the 1980s, and Interplay Entertainment is one of them. Interplay was involved in over 100 titles long before the modern gaming industry was born, including ground-breaking franchises such as Descent, Earthworm Jim, Baldur’s Gate, and the ever-expanding Fallout game series.

Interplay no longer develops its games, but it still publishes an extensive catalog of titles, preserving over 40 years of its legacy for new and old players.

Interplay Entertainment’s journey to reintroduce its most famous games continues with a re-release from the Battle Chess series. Battle Chess 4000 is now available on Steam for $10 with a 40% launch week discount, as well as a 30% discount on the Battle Chess Mega Bundle, which includes Battle Chess, Battle Chess: Enhanced, Battle Chess 2: Chinese Chess, and Battle Chess 4000.

Furthermore, every title in the Battle Chess series has been updated to support Linux and macOS operating systems, as well as features like Steam Remote Play Together, which allows for online play in classic games.

Following the re-release of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, Interplay Entertainment announced that it would be updating all of its existing games on the digital storefront. Steam users with Linux and macOS operating systems can now play more than just Battle Chess, as 30 Interplay titles, including Redneck Rampage, Earthworm Jim, Descent, and Toonstruck, are currently supported on Linux and macOS as of today, October 14.

Interplay’s future could be bright, with the famed studio bringing back an updated collection of previous games and the re-release of Battle Chess 4000. Following the successful remaster of the original, the publisher is expected to release even more titles, including a possible re-release of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2. Players can pick up the Battle Chess series on Steam and revisit the unique, old-school chess title on modern hardware until more information is released.
